A leading Stourbridge firm of solicitors has become the latest company to take part in a groundbreaking scheme that helps to tackle climate change.
Talbots has recently used ‘tomdunn’, a specialist professional services recruitment agency, to find two people for its expanding operation in the West Midlands and, as part of the agreement, has planted a special tree to reduce the carbon footprint of their new recruits.
The ‘photinia Red Robin’ was officially planted recently at Mary Stevens Park and also marks a milestone achievement for tomdunn, who have planted more than 75 trees thereby offsetting 20 tonnes of carbon.
“Protecting the environment is an important issue for our business and one of our core values, which is why we are delighted that such a well known and respected solicitors like Talbots has agreed to support our ongoing commitment to be Carbon Neutral,” explained Stuart Thomas of tomdunn.
“We give every client the opportunity to plant a tree to mark the placing of candidates, with some customers planting them locally, whilst others prefer to make use of a Sustainable Forest in North Wales.”
He continued: “Our green credentials are very important and planting trees is just one way of showing this. We also enjoy working with like-minded firms, who are good corporate citizens and can see that boosting the environment has its own business benefits.”
Gareth Price and David Burford have joined Talbots as Employment Law Partner and HR Manager respectively and both will be responsible for helping to fulfil ambitious expansion plans over the next twelve months.
The company, which employs around 80 people at its offices in Stourbridge, Hagley and Kidderminster, offers a comprehensive range of legal services in business, crime, employment, disputes, property, divorce and children.
Its competitive charging structure and commitment to ethical practices has seen the Lexcel-accredited firm command an impressive client base of SMEs and multi-national businesses.
Martyn Morgan, Partner at Talbots, was present at the ceremony:
“We are delighted to take part in this initiative as it fits perfectly with our ethical approach to business.
“tomdunn has found us two perfect candidates that will help us expand and deliver the high quality service our clients expect. In return we can ensure that we minimise their carbon footprint by planting a tree, so it’s a real win-win situation. Even better still is that it is close to our offices so we can see it grow.”
A division of Career Prospects, ‘tomdunn’ was established in 2006 to specialise in the recruitment of professional services specialists.
The company operates more than an executive search and selection business. It believes it can make a difference by behaving in a socially and ethically responsible way and that is why it became the first independent agency in the UK to become Carbon Neutral.
Stuart concluded: “Planting a tree is just one part of the overall approach and is complemented by a commitment to remote interviewing through telephone or video conferencing and by a state-of-the-art computer system which provides a paperless office.
“This is just the start and we are keen to build mutually beneficial relationships with ethically minded companies across the West Midlands and the UK."
